Fall Wine & Beer Fest In The Hocking Hills

It is just one short week until our second Wine & Beer Fest! This event was so much fun in July and we know this one is going to be even better!

Taking place on Saturday, October 1, from 2-5pm, guests are invited to taste and test a variety of delicious wines and beers in our Gathering Place. The Inn is excited to welcome back Matthew from Rockmill Brewery with his fabulous and organic local brews, as well as wine expert Steve Gifford, who will bring a great selection of red and white wines. Chef Anthony will provide light appetizers including Artisanal Cheeses & Fruits and Gravlox and Tapenade with Crostini & Flatbreads.

And entertainment will even be provided by The Hocking River String Band! A group of friends from Lancaster, Ohio, the band is a culmination of all of their favorite things about music, with each player bringing something unique to the table.

No reservations are needed. Just join us for some great food, great music, and great wine and beer! See you in the Hocking Hills this fall! Welcome, and Enjoy!

Delicious Fall Entrees In The Hocking Hills

Autumn is almost here and that means that the weather is a little cooler, the days are a bit shorter, and the leaves are getting ready to dazzle us with their beautiful colors. It also means that it is time for Chef Anthony to roll out the Inn’s fabulous fall menu!

Starters like Bacon, Fennel & Apple Chutney with Foie Gras, and Pan Seared Chickpea Cakes will give you just a taste of Chef Anthony’s delicious menu.

Our mouth-watering entrees include Butternut Ravioli with Peppered Sage Cream Sauce, Pan Seared Pork Chop with Ginger & Pear Sauce, and Pan Roasted Snapper with Shallots, Currants, and Red Wine.

Herb Roasted Leg of Chicken & Wild Rice, Diver Sea Scallops with Gnocchi, and our ever popular Grilled & Roasted Filet Mignon with Sauce Lyonnaise round out the menu.

Pair these wonderful entrees with wines suggested by Chef Anthony or with any of our more than 50 wines on our list. Make sure to leave room for our decadent desserts like Chocolate Flourless Torte, Mixed Berry Cobbler, and even a selection of Jeni’s Ice Cream.

Fall will soon be upon us and that means that the Hocking Hills will come alive with their fabulous display of breathtaking colors. It also means it’s a perfect time to sign up for one of Chef Anthony’s popular Weekend CookInn Classes!

Spend some time in the kitchen of our award-winning restaurant, working with Chef Anthony to prepare a number of dishes, all of which you will enjoy at dinner on Saturday night. This year’s fall class takes place September 16 – 17 and will feature local fruit like PawPaws, Apples, and Pears, as well as a selection of Sweet and Savory Dishes.

Our CookInn packages include lodging for Friday and Saturday nights, dessert and a glass of wine with Chef Anthony on Friday evening, breakfast both mornings, recipes and hands-on cooking on Saturday from 1-4pm, dinner on Saturday night, and an Inn apron.

Summer is winding down but there is still time for some fun in the Hocking Hills! On August 26 we are pleased to host the third of our very popular Wine TasteInns. These events are always a good time and this one is sure to be no exception!

Our Fall Wine TasteInn will feature the delicious and increasingly more popular wines of Spain. Look forward to great tasting, approachable wines presented by wine expert Steve Gifford and paired with Chef Anthony’s mouth-watering offerings.

Your four-course meal will include well-known Spanish foods, starting with a Spanish Omelette w/Greens & Saffron Aioli, and followed by Roasted Spaghetti Squash Soup and Boston & Radicchio Greens w/Toasted Almonds, Grapes, Goat Cheese & Sherry Vinaigrette. Entree choices include Paella w/Shrimp, Clams & House Made Chorizo or Grilled Hanger Steak w/Chimichurri.

Dear Friends,

Business is booming.  We’ve had a great summer start and it looks like it’s going to continue.  In fact, we are so busy that we are hiring in all departments.  Just in case you live close by or know of anyone job hunting!!

Summer fun continues in the Hocking Hills.  Don’t miss Lilyfest from July 8-10.  Beautiful gardens are landscaped in the woods.  Juried artists showcase their wares.   Our first Wine/Beer Fest is July 23 from 2-5pm.  Test our favorite selection of wines and beers.  Live entertainment from our Sous Chef, Gerard Shay, and his band.  There are a few openings left for Chef Anthony’s Summer Dessert CookInn class.  We are hosting a special Sales Development Program presented by Murray Associates on August 25-26.  All meals and lodging are included in the package. It is limited to 12 participants on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested call Murray Associates at 614-873-7227 to register. See the complete calendar of events here.

Don’t forget swimming is an option for our guests.  If you prefer the beach, try Lake Logan.  If a pool suits you better, our friends at Old Man’s Cave Chalets have graciously allowed our guests access.  We even provide the towels for you.

 

Weddings and Family

A news update for Ellen and Terry’s family.  Son Benjamin is home from North Carolina State for a few weeks.  This fall he will continue his co-op in Civil Engineering.  Daughter Sarah just became engaged to Nick Bertrams.  We are excited to have Nick join our family.  The wedding, which will not be at the inn due to its large size, will be in the fall of 2012. Speaking of weddings, the Inn has hosted several of them this summer.  We can accommodate any size up to 50 in The Gathering Place and 20 on the Rooftop Garden.

 

 

 

Innkeeper News

Innkeeper Ellen has been traveling as her responsibilities increase with her upcoming 2012 appointment as the President for Select Registry.  The board is involved in adopting the Carver Board Governance model.  In preparation, the committee met in New Jersey last week at the Candlelight Inn.  In early August, Ellen will travel to Marshall, MI which is the home office for Select Registry.  She will stay at the National House Inn during that time.

Spend Mother’s Day In The Beautiful Hocking Hills

Our 1840′s log cabin is a perfect place to spend this special day with your loved ones, and Chef Anthony’s delicious food is sure to make the mother in your life very happy. Delectable brunch offerings will include a fabulous Pastry Basket full of muffins, breads, and other breakfast goodies and Inn-made Granola and Raspberry Yogurt, followed by Caramelized Onion, Spinach & Goat Cheese Quiche, Steamed Salmon with Snap Peas, Bell Peppers & Pistachio Oil over Jasmine Rice, or Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Charred Tomato Salsa. Finish off brunch with Chocolate Tiramisu or the Inn’s famous Mixed Berry Cobbler with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Yum!

Bluebells

Rain, rain, don’t go away!  Waterfalls are here to stay!  And, it brings flowers in May!   But, a little warmer weather would be nice.

Don’t forget about the wonderful women in your life!  Join us for Mother’s Day on May 8 for a delectable Brunch prepared by Chef Anthony.  We have a few openings left.  Lunch times are from 11:30-1:30 and reservations are required.

Our American Red Cross Blood Drive was a huge success.  We almost doubled our numbers from last fall.  Many thanks to our hard working inn team of Nancy, Erica, Katherine and Keegan who helped recruit people to donate.  The following staff all donated:  Ellie, Nicole, Peggy, Gerard, Debbie, Rita, Joan, Megan, Keegan, Katherine, Nancy, Terry and Ellen.  An extra special thanks goes to guest and Red Cross volunteer Cindy Henry for all her help at registration.  Thanks so much everyone!  Our next Blood Drive is November 5.

Being prepared for emergencies is important.  Inn staff complete CPR training every other year as a refresher course.  This year the following people participated:  Anthony, Gerard, Stephanie, Randy, Ellie, Kellie, Tim, Ellen and Rita.

Lots of fun events coming up in early summer.  Start to plan your summer getaway now.  Here are a few in June.  Don’t miss the only Washboard Music Festival in the world on June 17-18.  Calling all dads for our Father’s Day BBQ on June 19. And, learn about Summer CookInn with Chef Anthony on June 29.

Taste Of Dine Originals

Dine Originals Columbus is gearing up for their annual Taste of Dine Originals event, and the Inn is very excited to once again be involved!

Taste of Dine Originals is a magical evening of delicious food, wine, beer, art, and excellent company. More than 50 original restaurants, 30 vineyards, and 2 craft breweries will all have magnificent offerings designed to tantalize your palate. Our own Chef Anthony will be present, offering Apple Wood Smoked Duck with Wild Mushroom, Cherry-Balsamic Vinaigrette, and Creme Fraiche as well as Lavender and Brandy Pound Cake with Dark Chocolate Ganache, all sure to be as remarkable as ever!

The evening will also include a silent auction featuring cooking lessons, private dinners, special events, works of art, and more. All proceeds from the evening will benefit The Buckeye Ranch and Dine Originals Columbus.
