Natural Spring in Hocking Hills

June 20th, 2011 by Innkeeper, Inn & Spa At Cedar Falls

Here is a tidbit of the Hocking Hills.  You’d have to be a local or know someone who is to know about it.  There is a SPRING on State Route 56.  It is between South Bloomingville and Ash Cave State Park.  It has easy access with parking right off the road.

People come from all around to fill up their water jugs that will last them for weeks or months.  Locals have been using it for years.  When I write years, I mean millennia.  This valley has been utilized as sacred hunting grounds since prehistoric man wandered this area.  Every time I stop to fill up my water bottle or a 6 gallon jug, I get a sense of stepping back in time.

As for the taste of the water; there’s nothing as pure.  Is it safe?  I don’t know…that’s for you to decide.  All I can tell you is people have been drinking it for a long, long time.

If you decide to go in search of the spring, please be respectful of the area when you find it.  Native Americans who still live in the area often leave small offerings of tobacco.  Unfortunately, others are not so humbled in the presence of Mother Earth and leave trash behind.  Bring a trash bag and pick up some litter while your container is filling.
