February INNformation at Cedar Falls

February 2nd, 2012 by Innkeeper, Inn & Spa At Cedar Falls

Dear Friends,
The falls are glistening this winter.  With the mixture of rain and snow thus far, the ice formations give way to the water flowing behind them leaving an imprint in your mind not be forgotten.   It is a photographer’s paradise.
Winter time is the perfect time of year to take extra special care of our staff. With the restaurant closed on Tuesdays, it allows us time to have parties and outings for our team.  Click here to see some photos.  Our housekeeping department went out to eat.  And, we hosted our “after holiday” staff party in The Gathering Place and Fireside Lounge.
Wellness Principles
There are seven foundational wellness principles that form the basis of health and wellness. Each principle follows the laws of nature because that is the only way to sustain good health.
The wellness principles are:

  • Think
  • breathe
  • drink
  • eat
  • sleep
  • exercise
  • detox
  • environmental
Wellness
Within each principle there are opportunities to make good or bad choices. If you make poor choices, illness may result. If you make good choices, over time you may achieve vibrant health. The principles may seem simple, and they are in a way. But in today’s world of artificial and processed foods, artificial light, toxins, limited or inappropriate exercise, and constant stress, living by these simple principles can be very challenging. The more you control your lifestyle and make healthy choices, the closer you get to wellness.

Weddings and Family

A news update for Ellen and Terry’s family.  Son Benjamin is home from North Carolina State for a few weeks.  This fall he will continue his co-op in Civil Engineering.  Daughter Sarah just became engaged to Nick Bertrams.  We are excited to have Nick join our family.  The wedding, which will not be at the inn due to its large size, will be in the fall of 2012. Speaking of weddings, the Inn has hosted several of them this summer.  We can accommodate any size up to 50 in The Gathering Place and 20 on the Rooftop Garden.

June 7th, 2011 by Innkeeper, Inn & Spa At Cedar Falls

Dear Friends,
Wow, spring moved right past us! And, into a warm start of summer. Innkeeper Terry say’s that’s great for our newest endeavor… BEES.
Bees
Mid May, the bees arrived. Terry has four active hives located in a private area beyond the hammocks. While it will take a year until we can process the honey, the bees are active and thriving.  Honey combs are already in the making. The honey will be used in the restaurant, for spa facials and sold in the gift shop.
Bees at the Inn
Rooftop Garden
The finishing touches are being added to the Rooftop Garden. The flowers are blooming and Chef Anthony is already harvesting two types of lettuce. Innkeeper Terry designed and built the gazebo. Gardeners Kellie and Scott made it look gorgeos with plantings. It’s the perfect setting for star gazing, swinging with your loved one, hosting small weddings or renewing your marriage vows.

April Inn News

April 5th, 2011 by Innkeeper, Inn & Spa At Cedar Falls

Dear Friends.

The peace and quiet our guests receive while visiting our Inn is similar to the serenity Terry and I reflect upon at our lakeside cottage at Buckeye Lake. Last fall, we purchased a quaint, small getaway where we retreat to. For us at the lake and you visiting us in the Hocking Hills, we can renew time together, visit with family, staff and friends and reflect on how lucky we are. As I look our over the lake, it is nice to take time to write all of you.

This past month I have traveled several times for business. Terry and I went to the Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg, KY for our THINK meeting. A great time was spent with our innkeeper friends. As the VP for Select Registry, I traveled to Atlanta to embark on a two day intensive training on the Carver Method of Policy Goverence. From there I flew to Louisville, KY, where Lanie, our Sales Consultnat, and I participated in the annual MPI (Meeting Professionals International) trade show. Lanie and I had the opportunity to introduce The Gathering Place to meeting planners to schedule Executive Board Retreats and Staff Development meetings. This week I travel to Cleveland to meet with another group of business travel companies to introduce them to everything we have to offer for corporate events.

Who knows us better than you, our guests! Perhaps, you know of a company that might use our meeting space. Anyone sending us a meeting of 10 or more people receives a FREE night’s stay. Send your referral today.

With spring in the air…ok, so the weather hasn’t been the warmest, but the flowers are in bloom…we have a nice schedule of events for April-May. Celebrate Easter on April 24 or Mother’s Day on May 8 with a delectable Brunch prepared by Chef Anthony. Lunch times are from 11:30-1:30 and reservations are required. Call today as we will be full.
Don’t miss the 7th Annual Nelsonville Music Festival the weekend of May 13-15. If blue grass and country music aren’t “your cup of tea”, join our spa therapist for the Inn’s Mind, Body and Spirit Renewal Workshop.

Terry, I and our staff wanted to create an ongoing event that would give back to the community. What better way than partnering with the American Red Cross to donate blood. We all know someone that has needed blood. Come give of yourself on Saturday, April 16 at our Second Bi-Annual Blood Drive. You don’t need to stay the night, come visit the Hocking Hills for the day. Terry will be cooking on the grill for those donating and Chef Anthony is providing the fixinns for lunch. Call 740-385-7489 to reserve your time slot.

We are a very proud member of Dine Originals Columbus. Offered only 4 times per year, a limited supply of 30% Discount Certificates are now available.

Thanks to all  our guest who continue to post blogs, Facebook and Twitter to their friends about your stay. We truely appreciate you letting others know about us.

Outdoor Patio DiningAs you can see, there us a lot going on this spring. Come join in the fun. The patio is set and ready to go for outdoor dining. And, Terry is putting the finishing touches on the rooftop garden for the summer season. It always warms our hearts to see our Inn friends. We look forward to your return. Visit our calendar of events for a Complete list of events.

February Inn News

February 4th, 2011 by Innkeeper, Inn & Spa At Cedar Falls

Dear Friends,

Winter Wonderland abounds in the Hocking Hills.  This winter has been one of the best of hiking.  The ice formations are spectacular especially when the sun is breaking through the trees making the ice glisten.  Recently, Innkeeper Ellen hiked Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave and Rose Lake.  She says” Each one is breath taking in its own way.  Winter is still my favorite season in the Hocking Hills.  I love the quiet and crispness of walking in the woods this time of year.  The ice formations are mesmerizing and the silence permits time for pondering and reflection.”

Join us for some fun with our array of winter events.  Our first “FRIDAY NIGHT at the MOVIES” was fun. Terry’s warm chocolate drinks and chocolate chip s’mores were to “die for”.   Grease is playing on Feb 4 and on March 4 it’s Dirty Dancing! Come join the fun, dance and sing along!  Want to win some brownie points with your loved one?  Join us for Valentine’s Day.  There are a few openings left for our overnight special and dinner.  The winter Wine TasteInn on Feb 25 is almost sold out, call today.  Ready to re-energize?  Join our spa therapists for the Mind, Body Spirit Renewal workshop on Feb 27-28. You won’t want to miss Patty Geiger’s workshop “Woodland Awakening” April 28-May 1.

The AAA Travel Show was a huge success.  It gave us the opportunity to introduce ourselves to new guests and make new friends.  But, best of all was the large number of people who stopped by our booth and have stayed with us.  They were able to tell all the other people first-hand about how wonderful they think we are!

Ellen shopped her heart away at the Atlanta Gift Mart!  New Gift Shop items are already arriving.  Innkeeper Ellen says, “I purchased from about 30 new vendors.  Some of the new items include green garden pots, functional bird houses, children’s toys and a new line of hand soap and body lotion.”   Make sure you stop by on your next trip to the Hocking Hills.

It always warms our hearts to see our repeat guests.  We look forward to your return.
