Meet the Innkeepers
Ellen was born in Atlanta, GA, Before Ellen was one year old, her parents, Anne and Henry moved to Pittsburgh, PA. Both of her parents grew up in the Pittsburgh area. Ellen spent many holidays and vacations in Mt. Lebanon and Shadyside. The final family move was to Columbus. Ellen attended Bexley High School. The majority of her years growing up were spent playing competitive tennis. Tennis even followed her to Kent State University where she played on their varsity team while completing a BS in Health Education. After college, Ellen’s career started in Columbus working for Children’s Hospital and then the City of Columbus Health Department. All the years of helping people prepared Ellen for her final move to the Hocking Hills in 1987 where she joined her mother to open the Inn. In addition to serving on many boards, Ellen is also a hospice volunteer.
Terry was born in Columbus, OH and was the youngest of three children. He attended Whitehall High School and worked a variety of maintenance and construction positions including Temple Israel, Heritage Apartments and Cardinal Builders. Then, Terry started his own construction company prior to moving to the Hocking Hills. While doing construction and maintenance he farmed about 100 acres in the hills. His farming included a 25 cow/calf operation, 100 head of hogs, chickens and a large vegetable garden. He learned the art of quilting from his mother as well as helping can goods from the garden. Working closed with Anne and her vision, Terry created and developed the Inn. Prior to coming on board fulltime at the Inn, he had a wood working/ furniture shop. Terry is an avid morel hunter and enjoys deer hunting and fishing. He is passionate about cooking both at home and Inn breakfasts. His newest endeavor is beekeeping.
As A Couple
Terry and Ellen have two children. Sarah works at Limited Corporation and lives in Columbus with her fiancé Nick. Benjamin is a senior at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. As empty nesters, Ellen and Terry enjoy traveling and spending time at their lake cottage.
The Inn continues to grow and review its mission. It has remained the same throughout 23 years of operation. Simply put, it says, “We are a Country Inn in a peaceful, natural setting, where people can connect with the earth and universe. We are dedicated to high standards — standards of Excellence. We have committed ourselves to quality food, quality surroundings, quality service and quality employees.”
Today, Ellen, Terry and the dedicated and outstanding staff continue to carry on Anne’s dream. Put us to the test to help you create and enjoy the best getaway ever.
