History

Like many other legendary venues, Stuart’s Opera House has a past that’s both glorious and rocky. The theatre was in it’s prime from 1879 through 1924 when it was home to vaudeville, melodrama, and minstrel shows, but closed and sat empty until 1976. In 1977, a group had started bringing the theatre back to life until a catastrophic fire nearly destroyed the building in 1980. Seventeen long years later, the opera house successfully re-opened its doors and is now home to nationally acclaimed performances. Stuart’s Opera House has been used for tons of special events, including meetings, receptions, and weddings, and hosts over 75 events a year.
