Why You Should See the Cantwell Cliffs During Your Visit

In order to reach the Cantwell Cliffs, visitors must endure a 40-minute hike through the park. However, many find that the journey to the cliffs is half the fun! With stunning wildflowers (especially in the spring), and a variety of local trees lining the path, you’ll have plenty to look at during the hike.

When you arrive at the cliffs, the astonishing beauty is sure to steal your breath away! You will see the erosion caused by Buck Run River, a rock shelter, beautiful valley floor, and fascinating reddish-brown stone. Cantwell Cliffs are also the home of Fat Woman’s Squeeze in the Hocking Hills. This walkway is part of a rugged trail near the cliffs that sends visitors through a narrow rock walkway. Don’t worry, most travelers are able to fit through the walkway!

A visit to Cantwell Cliffs is an absolute must during your stay at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls. Not only is the hike a peaceful and enjoyable journey, but the attraction itself is something you won’t soon forget. Don’t forget your cameras!

More Places to See in Hocking Hills State Park

Conkle’s Hollow

While exploring Hocking Hills, Conkle’s Hollow is an attraction you don’t want to miss! Located in an Ohio Nature Preserve, the attraction was named after W.J. Conkle, who carved his name and the date 1797 into the sandstone on the west wall of the gorge. Conkle’s Hollow consists of steep sandstone cliffs that rise nearly 200 feet above the ground. This is an easy journey and stretches only 1-mile roundtrip. For the more experienced hiker, there is also a wonderful 2 ½ mile long hiking trail that travels along the rim of the hollow.

Rock Bridge

Rock Bridge in the Hocking Hills is among one of the most unusual yet fascinating formations in the park. It is also where you’ll find one of the most stunning Hocking Hills waterfalls! As the name suggests, this waterfall flows under a natural bridge, giving it a unique look. If you are arriving by canoe, you can easily pull your canoe to the shore and hike to the falls from the river.

Ash Cave

Ash Cave is named for large amounts of ashes that early settlers discovered in the cave. The settlers believed that Native Americans used Ash Cave for their shelter and the ashes were from the campfires. In addition to the enormous 700 -foot long cave, the Hocking Hills State Park attraction also boasts a magnificent waterfall at its center. In the winter, visitors travel to Ash Cave to see the breathtaking frozen waterfall.
