Wineries in OhioWine lovers, unite! During your visit to the Hocking Hills, you can enjoy wine tasting experiences of Napa Valley, CA caliber. There are tons of wineries to explore near the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls where you can spend the day indulging in your favorite flavors, taking a tour, or strolling hand in hand through the vineyards. Just to help you get started, here are some of the most popular wineries in Ohio that we’re sure you’ll love just as much as we do.

Wineries in Ohio are only the beginning of all you’ll enjoy during your visit to the Hocking Hills! Request your free copy of our Vacation Guide and instantly receive a full list of local activities, attractions, entertainment, and more.

4 of the Best Wineries in Ohio

  1. The Hocking Hills Winery

Located just minutes from our inn, the Hocking Hills Winery in Logan, OH transports you right into the Ohio wine country. Sample a variety of wines in their tasting room including Chardonnay, Malbec, Riesling, and Syrah, or take a tour of the winery. You can munch on appetizer trays and finger foods like meats, cheeses, and crackers, or feel free to order in from a local restaurant or bring one of the inn’s brown bag lunches!

  1. Manchester Hill Winery

Manchester Hill Winery is a quaint family-owned winery that features an intimate tasting room and wines made with hand-selected grapes from renowned Ohio vineyards. Feel free to pair your glass with selections from a delicious cheese plate. For larger groups, you may take advantage of the extensive in-house catering menu. Be sure to bring a few pieces of bread with you to feed the adorable farm animals after your wine tasting!

  1. Rockside Winery and Vineyards

Seventeen acres of rolling vineyards make a trip to Rockside Winery a dream come true for vino lovers. Ohio’s cold winters and short summers prove difficult for grape growing. However, varieties like Cabernet Franc, Vidal Blanc, and Corot Noir thrive in this challenging climate and produce healthy, flavorful grapes. You can stroll the vineyard to see how it’s done, then taste the magic in the winery’s beautiful tasting room.

  1. Shade Winery

Shade Winery is the place to enjoy some of the best wines in Ohio, whether it be by the bottle or the glass. You can kick back in their comfy tasting room or relax on the wrap-around porch for sprawling views of the vineyard. Local cheeses and crackers, mixed olives, and smoked salmon are also available. For an even more memorable wine tasting in Ohio experience, Shade Winery hosts many events and live music performances.

It’s the perfect tool for planning the ultimate getaway to our one-of-a-kind destination.

Logan, Ohio History: The Origins of Our Town

Established in 1816, the small town of Logan, Ohio in the Hocking Hills grew slowly since its location isolated it from many major cities. However, in 1825, approximately 250 people resided in the town. By 1840, the number of residents had doubled and the town contained four stores and two churches. Logan’s population continued to increase over the next four decades, and by 1880, 2,666 people resided in the community. The town then had three newspaper offices, six churches, two banks, and a railroad that passed through the bustling community.

The Hocking River provided sufficient water power for the purpose of operating grist and sawmills, and several industries blossomed due to the area’s rich mineral resources. In addition, the clay soils of the Hocking Valley helped Ohio to become a leader in clay products. The firebrick industry manufactured products like clay tile, building and paving bricks, and clay sewer pipes. Evidence of this industry can be seen in the many brick houses of the area, and clay is still an important staple in our region.

Visit the Logan, Ohio Historical Society

If you’re interested in experiencing even more Logan, Ohio history during your stay, you won’t want to leave the Historical Society off your itinerary! Formed in 1966, the Logan, Ohio Historical Society has grown into a five-building complex that offers visitors a look into what life was like in Hocking County many years ago. Displays include an 1898 Steam Auto, a Conestoga wagon brought from Pennsylvania in 1837, a black walnut piano shipped from New Orleans in 1880, as well as a large collection of furniture, pictures, books, and artifacts. The Hocking County Historical Society’s goal is to educate visitors on the heritage of our area, making this museum a wonderful family-friendly destination.

What is a Yurt?

Yurts are circular shelters that were used for centuries by Central Asian nomads. There are several variations of the basic design and different names used for the structure. The Ger and the bentwood yurt (also known as the Üy) were the most common. The Mongolian Ger is one of the oldest designs and known for its relatively heavy center ring and straight rafters. The design of these yurts inspired the modern Pacific-style yurts that you’ll find at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls. Our modernized version of these yurts are made of beautiful Douglas fir, wrapped in NASA-developed reflective insulation, and covered in with architectural fabric. The wood rafters lead upward into the central dome creating an open, spacious feeling with an abundance of natural light. They are truly a marvel to behold and even better to stay in!

About Our Yurts

Yurt Camping OhioOur custom designed Hocking Hills yurts combine the very best experiences of refined cabin life and tent camping. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the comforting sounds, sights, and smells of nature without sacrificing the luxuries you’d find at most hotels and resorts. Each 20-foot diameter yurt has a king-size bed or two twin beds, full bathroom with a tiled shower, comfortable reading rockers, gas log stove, microwave/under counter refrigerator, a wood deck and more. Plus, they are heated and air-conditioned for year round use!

You may find that our yurts do not have a TV. This gives you the chance to truly live in the moment and enjoy your memorable glamping experience with your loved ones. At night, you’ll don’t forget to gaze up at an entire sky of sparkling stars right from your bed! It’s the cherry-on-top of a truly perfect yurt camping in Ohio getaway.

The fall season is a truly enchanting time of year in the Hocking Hills. With crisp weather and stunning scenery, there are many ways to experience the natural beauty of our region this autumn. One activity we highly recommend to our guests at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is taking a journey down the Hocking Hills Scenic Byway. More About the Hocking Hills Scenic Byway

The Hocking Hills Scenic Byway is a 26.4-mile self-guided tour along State Route 374. In addition to some of the most stunning sights in the Hocking Hills, travelers will also have the chance to see significant historic sites. For these reasons, it is known as one of the best scenic drives in Ohio. It is also a fantastic way for visitors to experience the vibrant fall foliage and capture postcard-worthy photos. The adventure begins on State Route 374 on US 33 in Rockbridge. As you travel from north to south, here are some of the attractions you’ll find along the way!

Cantwell Cliffs

The Cantwell Cliffs were created by erosion caused by Buck Run River. As you explore, you’ll find fascinating reddish-brown stone in the cliffs, a rock shelter, a beautiful valley floor, and the popular Fat Woman’s Squeeze.

Conkle’s Hollow

Located in an Ohio Nature Preserve, Conkle’s Hollow was named after W.J. Conkle, who carved his name and the date 1797 into the sandstone on the west wall of the gorge. Conkle’s Hollow consists of steep sandstone cliffs that rise nearly 200 feet above the ground.

Ash Cave

Ash Cave is named for large amounts of ashes that early settlers discovered in the cave. The settlers believed that Native Americans used Ash Cave for their shelter and the ashes were from the campfires. In addition to the enormous 700 -foot long cave, the Hocking Hills State Park attraction also boasts a magnificent waterfall at its center. In the winter, visitors travel to Ash Cave to see the breathtaking frozen waterfall.

Hocking Hills State Forest Headquarters

In the 1930’s, this destination was a house to prisoners who were not a flight risk. These men were expected to plant trees, fight forest fires, and help take care of the parks. This gave prisoners the chance to learn new skills while spending time in the outdoors.

Black Civilian Conservation Corps Camp

Although there isn’t much left of the camp, visiting the remains can be a fascinating history lesson. The men of this organization planted trees, created trails, and many structures that you can still find in the Hocking Hills today.

Village of Mound Crossing

Located at mile 11.9, this ancient mound was created in the backyard of a farmhouse that was built by the Hopewell Indians before the birth of Christ.
